Viking Hotel Blackpool England Review
Of all the seaside resorts around the coast of the United Kingdom, the one dearest to many people’s hearts is Blackpool, in Lancashire. For over a hundred years the town has occupied top spot, attracting trippers and holidaymakers, year in, year-out, from all four corners of England and beyond. The Viking Hotel, Blackpool, is one of a large number of hotels on the town’s seafront. Our review takes a look at what the Viking has to offer.
The Viking Hotel occupies an excellent position on Blackpool’s seafront Promenade, which is the hub of the town so far as tourists are concerned. A stone’s throw away are the historic South Pier and the Pleasure Beach. A little to the north, but within easy walking distance, are the Blackpool Tower, the Winter Gardens, and the town’s two other piers, the Central and the North Pier.
The accommodation at the Viking is designed to be affordable, but without compromising on quality. The hotel has 100 rooms, and all are en-suite. Many, though not all, of the rooms have extensive views across the promenade and out to sea. Provided for guests in all rooms are a TV, telephone, and facilities for making tea and coffee. Additional items that guests may require, such as irons/boards and hairdryers, can be obtained on request from the hotel’s front desk.
The typical stay at the Viking Hotel, Blackpool, includes bed and breakfast, with the choice of either continental style or a cooked English breakfast, served in the hotel’s showcase restaurant. Diners at the Viking enjoy spectacular, unrestricted views of the sea from the hotel restaurant’s large windows. As well as serving breakfast, the restaurant is open throughout the day for lunches, light refreshments, and full evening meals, the latter extending to as many as seven courses. It should be noted that many past visitors to the Viking have remarked on the high quality of the food served here.
In addition to its main restaurant, the Viking has a separate cafe bar, serving drinks and light meals, along with several comfortable, well-stocked bars, again all enjoying marvelous sea views. The icing on the cake, from guests’ point of view, is the fantastic evening entertainment offered at the Viking. The hotel stays ahead of the pack by having its own entertainment and nightclub venue, called The Talk of the Coast, which offers cabaret and musical shows, as well as DJs and other attractions, with something exciting going on every night during the summer season.
One thing visitors to Blackpool benefit from is the strong competition for business among the town’s hotels. There are so many hotels, guest houses and B&Bs in town that inevitably prices are very cheap. When deciding where to book their stay, some people may be tempted by the rock bottom prices at some of the more shady B&Bs far away from the seafront. But the more canny know that, as the saying goes, you get what you pay for. At the Viking Hotel, Blackpool, the pricing is still affordable, but value for money is second to none.
